2027 World Men’s Handball Championship

The 2027 Men’s World Handball Championship will be one of the main events in the world of team sports. The tournament will be held in Germany from January 13 to 31 and will bring together 32 of the strongest teams from all continents. Matches will be held in six cities: from Munich and Stuttgart to Cologne, where the final will be held. This is not the first time Germany has hosted a competition of this level, and fans are expecting a bright handball festival.

Among the main favorites is the Danish team, which has already won the World Championship four times in a row. Also traditionally in the fight for medals will be France, Sweden, Spain, Norway and, of course, the hosts of the tournament – Germany. The tournament includes a group stage, a main round, and then a playoff, where every mistake can be the last. This championship promises to be a record-breaking one both in terms of competition and spectator interest.

History of the Championship

The first World Men’s Handball Championship took place on 5-6 February 1938 in Berlin. Four teams took part in it. The German team won the gold medal.

Due to the Second World War, the next World Championship took place 16 years later (in 1954), with 16 teams making the final.

Since 1994, tournaments have been held every 2 years. 24 teams have started to take part in the finals tournaments.

In 2021, 32 teams competed in the final for the first time.

The French team has the most championship titles in the history of the World Men’s Handball Championship (6).
