About the IHF World Women’s Handball Championship
The World Women’s Handball Championships has been held regularly every 2 years since 1993 under the auspices of the International Handball Federation (IHF).
2023 World Women’s Handball Championship
The 26th World Women’s Handball Championship will be held at the stadiums of Denmark, Norway and Sweden from 30 November to 17 December. This is the second time in history that teams from 32 countries will take part in the championship. Sweden will host the World Women’s Handball Championship for the first time, while Denmark and Norway will do so for the third time.
History of the IHF World Women’s Handball Championship
The first World Women’s Handball Championship was held in 1957. Initially 9 teams competed in the final tournaments, with the number of participants increasing every year. As of 2021, 25 tournaments had been played. Russia/USSR have been champions 7 times and Norway 4 times. From 1957 to 2017 the Russian/USSR team won the tournament’s top player title four times and the top scorer title three times.

2025 World Women’s Handball Championship
According to preliminary information, the XXVII Women’s Handball World Championship will be held at the stadiums in Germany and the Netherlands in December 2025.
