The Russian Cup among women’s volleyball teams in memory of Honoured Coach of the USSR Givi Akhvlediani is the national annual women’s volleyball championship which was first held in 1993.
The competition among men’s volleyball teams is called the Russian Volleyball Cup in memory of Konstantin Reva, and has been held annually since 1993.
2026 Russian Volleyball Cup in Memory of Givi Akhvlediani
In 2026, the Givi Akhvlediani Russian Women’s Volleyball Cup will once again bring together the country’s strongest teams. Although the exact dates have not yet been announced, it is expected that the tournament will traditionally take place in late April – early May. The final part will again be organized in the Final Six format, where the teams will play first in a group, and then in the semi-finals and final.
It is highly likely that the tournament will again be hosted by the universal hall of the SPbGMTU in St. Petersburg, where the competition has been held for several years.
Expected participants are the leaders of the Super League:
- Lokomotiv (Kaliningrad),
- Dynamo-Ak Bars (Kazan),
- Leningradka,
- Zarechye-Odintsovo,
- Uralochka-NTMK,
- Dynamo (Krasnodar).
History of the Russian Women’s Volleyball Cup
The first Women’s Volleyball Cup of Russia competitions took place in 1993. And only in 2009, the tournament was renamed in honour of Givi Akhvlediani, the great coach, Cavalier of the Volleyball Hall of Fame.
The competitions are held in several stages: preliminary and final stages. Till 2004, 6-8 teams were divided into two groups and competed among themselves for places – 1st to 4th and 5th to 8th.
Since 2005, the format of the tournament has been changed so that now 4 teams qualify for the final stage – the Final Four – and they compete for places 1-3.
The team with the most wins is Dinamo-Ak Bars (7 wins).
Anna Matiyenko is the most titled player. She is a two-time champion of Russia and European champion.
