About the Russian Men’s Volleyball Cup in Memory of Konstantin Kuzmich Reva

The Russian Men’s Volleyball Cup in Memory of Konstantin Reva is the national annual volleyball championship, which has been held since 1993. It is second in importance after the Russian Volleyball Super League. Since 2009, this sporting event has been named after Konstantin Reva, the Soviet volleyball player, world volleyball champion, two-time European champion, and Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR.

A similar women’s volleyball event is called the Russian Cup among women’s volleyball teams in memory of Givi Akhvlediani, and has also been held since 1993.

2022 Russian Men’s Volleyball Cup in Memory of Konstantin Reva

The XXX Russian Men’s Volleyball Cup named after Konstantin Reva kicked off on 2 September and began its preliminary stage. From 2 to 19 of September, the competition was held in four groups.

Following the results of the preliminary stage, 12 teams reached the semi-finals, which were held on 3-6 November. The teams Zenit-Kazan (Kazan), Belogorie (Belgorod), Lokomotiv (Novosibirsk) and Fakel (Novy Urengoy) advanced to the final. “Final Four” will be held on 24-25 December in Novy Urengoy.

History of the Russian Volleyball Cup

The first competitions for the Russian Volleyball Cup were held in 1993. Since 2003, after changing the format of the event, the popularity of the competition has increased manifold.

Over the history of the Russian Volleyball Cup, Zenit-Kazan has become the champion 10 times, while Belogorie from Belgorod has won 8 times.

In 2009, teams from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Latvia and Ukraine were allowed to participate in the competition.
