About the Premier League

The Premier League (The Football Association Premier League Limited) is a professional football league for clubs from England and some clubs from Wales. The championship runs from August to May, with 20 clubs competing. Each team plays 38 matches.

2024/2025 Premier League

The 33rd season of the English Premier League will start on August 16, 2024 and will end on May 25, 2025. Traditionally, 20 teams will participate in it, each of which will play 38 matches – home and away. And the competitions themselves will be held at twenty stadiums in 12 cities of the country.

The winner of the championship will have the right to directly enter the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, and the teams that take 2nd-4th places will also get into the main club tournament of Europe. The clubs that take 5th-7th positions will go to the Europa League and the Conference League, and the three worst teams at the end of the season will fly out to the Championship.

Clubs participating in the 2024/2025 Premier League

In the 2024/2025 season, 17 teams that retained their place in the elite and three clubs that rose from the Championship will play in the English Premier League. The full list of participants will be known after the end of the previous season, but already now we can identify the key contenders for high places:

• Manchester City is the current champion and the main favorite of the tournament.
• Arsenal is an ambitious team ready to impose a fight for the title.
• Liverpool is a multiple champion of England, striving to regain its leadership.
• Manchester United is a club with a rich history, looking for a path to new victories.
• Chelsea is a team with young talents and high expectations.
• Tottenham and Newcastle are teams claiming European Cup places.

Favorites of the 2024/2025 season

Manchester City under the leadership of Josep Guardiola remains the main contender for the title. The club shows stable results and continues to dominate the Premier League.

However, the competition for the championship promises to be tough. Arsenal, which has improved its position in recent seasons, is striving to impose a fight. Liverpool with a new coach and a renewed squad can become a serious threat to the favorites.

Surprises are also possible from Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle – these clubs are always worth keeping an eye on.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) is the league’s top scorer.
Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) is one of the leaders of the “gunners”.
Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) is the star of the “reds'” attack.

History of the Premier League

The tournament was founded in 1992 and is called the Football Association Premier League Limited.

There were 22 teams in the first season of the 1992-93 Premier League. The first goal in the history of the tournament was scored by Brian Deane from Sheffield United. Nevertheless, it was Manchester United that claimed the first league title.

In 1995, the number of clubs in the Premier League was reduced to 20.

In 2007, the official name of the Football Association Premier League Limited was reduced to the Premier League.

Since 2016, the Premier League has had no official sponsor.
