About the Premier League

The Premier League (The Football Association Premier League Limited) is a professional football league for clubs from England and some clubs from Wales. The championship runs from August to May, with 20 clubs competing. Each team plays 38 matches.

2025/26 Premier League

The new 2025/26 English Premier League season will start on August 16, 2025 and will run until May 24, 2026. During these months, all 380 matches will be played, with each round full of intense competition and strong emotions.

This season, 20 teams will again play in the league. Among them are Leeds United, Burnley and Sunderland, who have returned to the elite, having successfully come through the Championship. The strongest clubs that remained in the league will also play together with them. Meanwhile, Leicester City, Ipswich Town and Southampton left the Premier League after an unsuccessful season.

The first round promises exciting matches: 10 games will be held from August 15 to 18, including the match between Liverpool and Bournemouth and the meeting between Manchester United and Arsenal.

An important moment of the season is the absence of matches on December 24, so that players and fans can celebrate Christmas in peace.

Who are the favorites of the championship?

Manchester City are multiple champions, in peak form, with a strong coaching staff and a deep squad. They are considered the main contenders for the title.

Arsenal — continues to progress, a young and talented team with an ambitious coach. Can surprise and fight for the top places.

Liverpool — traditionally strong at home, with experienced players and a charismatic coach. Will be one of the contenders for the championship.

Chelsea and Manchester United — are striving to return to the fight for the title after changes in the clubs. Both teams will do everything to regain their status as top clubs.

History of the Premier League

The tournament was founded in 1992 and is called the Football Association Premier League Limited.

There were 22 teams in the first season of the 1992-93 Premier League. The first goal in the history of the tournament was scored by Brian Deane from Sheffield United. Nevertheless, it was Manchester United that claimed the first league title.

In 1995, the number of clubs in the Premier League was reduced to 20.

In 2007, the official name of the Football Association Premier League Limited was reduced to the Premier League.

Since 2016, the Premier League has had no official sponsor.
