About the European Basketball Championship
EuroBasket is an international tournament for European men’s basketball teams, held every four years under the auspices of FIBA. The European Women’s Basketball Championship takes place every 2 years.
FIBA EuroBasket 2022
The European Basketball Championship, aka FIBA EuroBasket 2022, is the 41st European Basketball Championship. Since 2017, the continental championships have been held every four years. Initially the tournament was planned to be held in 2021, but due to a coronavirus pandemic the tournament was postponed until 2022. The upcoming EuroBasket will be held in four countries – Germany, Czech Republic, Georgia and Italy.
History of European Basketball Championships
The International Basketball Federation, founded in 1932, decided to “rehearse” before basketball was introduced in the Olympics. So, in 1935 they decided to hold the European Basketball Championship in Geneva. 10 teams took part in the first tournament. Victory in the tournament was won by the Latvian national team.
The USSR team became the European champion 14 times, followed by Yugoslavia in second place with 8 times. Currently, the title holder is Slovenia.

EuroBasket 2025
It is already known that the next European basketball championship will be held in 2025. The countries that will organize it are Latvia, Cyprus, Finland, Poland. 24 teams will take part in the Eurobasket 2025.
