About the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship

FIVB Volleyball World Championship is an international tournament which takes place every four years. After the Olympic Games, it is the most prestigious tournament for national volleyball teams.

FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in 2022

The 20th FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship will be held in Poland and Slovenia from 26 August to 11 September 2022. Russia was originally planned to be the host country, but FIVB had earlier withdrawn the country’s right to host the event. Also, this year, the Russian national team will not take part in the championship, it will be replaced by the Ukrainian team.

History of the Volleyball World Championships

 The history of volleyball world championships started in Prague in 1949. The Soviet national team won the tournament. At that time volleyball was in no way inferior to football. The first World Championships featured a team from Moscow, Leningrad and Kiev.

A few interesting facts about the game of volleyball:

1. Volleyball was originally known by another name – mintonette;
2. USA is the country where volleyball was invented;
3. Once in Asia, the rules called for 9-12 players per team instead of 6.
