About the EuroBasket Women

The European Women’s Basketball Championship (Eurowoman, EuroBasket women) is an international women’s basketball competition held every two years between European countries (including Israel). In addition to the FIBA Women’s World Championship, the EuroBasket Women is also used as a qualification tournament for the Olympic Games.

The men’s European Basketball Championship is called EuroBasket and has been held every four years since 1935.

EuroBasket Women 2025

The 2025 FIBA ​​Women’s EuroBasket Championship will be held in four countries: the Czech Republic, Germany, Greece and Italy. The tournament will feature 16 national teams that qualified through the FIBA ​​Women’s EuroBasket Qualifiers.

Some of the strongest teams in the tournament:

Spain is a multiple European champion and one of the most consistent teams in recent years.
France is a finalist in the last EuroBaskets and is known for its strong defense.
Serbia is the 2021 EuroBasket champion and is known for its team play.

History of EuroBasket Women

Women’s basketball is as spectacular and popular as men’s. Senda Berenson, who invented and enforced basketball rules in the US for 70 years (prior to the 1980s), is considered the mother of women’s basketball.

The first official European women’s basketball championship was held in Rome in 1938. The Italian team became the first champions.

In 1976, women’s basketball was included in the Olympic program.

The USSR women’s national team won the European Championships 21 times (1950-1956, 1960-1991).
