History Marathon
On 8 November 1964 the first track and field athletics cross took place with over 700 participants. Ten years later the first official Berlin Marathоn was held. Until 1981, the marathon was held in a wooded area. Eventually, it was decided to move the event to an asphalt road. This solution made it possible for wheelchair users to participate in the marathon.
In 1989, one of the novelties of the marathon was a mini-marathon in which school children’s teams took part.
In 2006, the prestigious World Marathоn Majors series was established with 6 World Marathon Majors: London Marathon, New York City Marathon, Chicago Marathоn, Boston Mаrathоn, Tokyo Mаrathоn and Berlin Marathon.
