History of the championship
The UK Snooker Championship is one of the oldest snooker tournaments in the world. It dates back to 1977 and immediately became one of the most prestigious tournaments on the calendar. In 1990 the championship moved to the city of Sheffield, where it is still held today.
The first UK Championship was held in 1977 in the city of Manchester, England. The tournament was won by Patsy Fagan, beating Douglas Mountjoy 12-9 in the final.
