The UEFA Super Cup is an official football tournament consisting of a single match between the winners of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League of the previous season. The Super Cup match opens the European football season.

The 2025 UEFA Super Cup will feature:
- The winner of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League
- The winner of the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League
The names of the participants will be announced following the finals of the European club tournaments in the spring of 2025. However, it can already be assumed that the favorites to participate in the Super Cup match include such giants of European football as Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern, Liverpool, Inter and PSG.
The possible winners of the Europa League include Barcelona, Arsenal, Milan, Roma and Bayer Leverkusen – these teams regularly perform at a high level and can compete for the trophy.

The choice of this city to host the final is due to the development of football infrastructure in Italy, as well as the popularity of football among local fans.
History of the UEFA Super Cup
The foundation of the Super Cup dates back to 1972. The same year the first match took place. AFC Ajax was the first team to win the Super Cup. Back then, the Dutch players were regarded as one of the strongest teams.
However, the first Super Cup under UEFA auspices was held in 1974.
The original format of the tournament envisaged home-and-away matches.
The first experience of a one-day match occurred in 1984.
Since 1998, the Super Cup format switched to a one-day match on a permanent basis.
At the end of the 1998-99 season, it was decided to hold the Super Cup match between the winners of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.
In 2008, a Russian football club won the Super Cup for the first time. FC Zenit Saint Petersburg defeated England’s Manchester United with a score of 2:1.
