About the Spanish Women’s Super Cup

The Supercopa de España Femenina (Spanish Women’s Super Cup) is an annual Spanish football mini-tournament that involves the champion and vice-champion teams of Spain, as well as the finalists of the Copa de la Reina/Queen’s Cup (third place teams in the championship may qualify for the tournament).

A similar men’s football event is called the Spanish Super Cup (Supercopa de España).

2024-25 Supercopa de España Femenina

The 2024/2025 Spanish Women’s Super Cup will be a major event in women’s football, bringing together the best Spanish clubs to determine the strongest. The tournament includes semi-finals and a final, where the winners of the Primera (women’s league) and the Queen’s Cup holders meet. If one club wins both trophies, the teams that finish next in the championship will participate.

The current edition will be held from 21 to 26 January 2025. The venue will be part of a strategy to popularize women’s football, aimed at attracting new fans. Among the favorites are such clubs as Barcelona, which have dominated women’s football in recent years, and Real Madrid, which is rapidly strengthening its position.

History of the tournament

The first Spanish Women’s Super Cup took place in 1997. At that time, the tournament was played between two teams and consisted of two matches – a home and an away match. The mini-tournament consisted of the champion and the winner of the Copa del Rey. This format of the tournament lasted until 2000.

From 2019, the tournament began to exist in a new format, which is relevant today.
