2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup

The 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be the tenth edition of the tournament. It will be held from February 8 to March 8, 2026, and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. India, which won the previous edition in 2024, will host the event as the defending champions.

The tournament is expected to feature 20 teams that will play 55 matches. The competition structure includes three stages: the group stage, the Super 8, and the playoffs. In the first stage, the teams will be divided into four groups of five teams. The top two from each group will advance to the next round, where they will again be divided into two groups. Based on the results of the Super 8, four teams will advance to the semi-finals.

Direct tickets to the tournament were given to India and Sri Lanka as host countries, as well as the eight strongest teams based on the results of the 2024 championship and the ICC rankings as of June 30, 2024. Another eight teams are determined during regional qualifiers, which take place from 2024 to 2025.

Due to the political situation and the peculiarities of relations between India and Pakistan, matches involving the Pakistani team will be held at a neutral venue in Sri Lanka.

The T20 World Cup in 2026 is expected to be one of the main events of world cricket, gathering millions of fans of this game in front of their screens.

History of the competition

The first ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was held in 2007 in South Africa. At that time, the Indian team snatched victory from Pakistan in the final part of the competition.

Over the course of time, the number of teams has constantly expanded and contracted. From the original 12 teams to the current 20.

The winners of the competition are presented with a trophy, which has been specially designed, made up of silver and rhodium.

Team England are the reigning champions. In 2022, they beat the Pakistan team in the final.
