FIVB Volleyball World Championship is an international tournament which takes place every four years. After the Olympic Games, it is the most prestigious tournament for national volleyball teams.
FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in 2027
The 2027 Men’s Volleyball World Championship will be held in Poland. This will be the country’s third time hosting the tournament. The competition is tentatively scheduled to begin on September 1, 2027. The upcoming championship is also significant because the three medal-winning teams will qualify directly for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Thirty-two national teams will compete for medals, as part of the championship’s new format. Gdansk will be one of the host cities, and the games will be held at the ERGO Arena.

Record audience: The Volleyball World Championship traditionally attracts millions of spectators around the world.
New stars: The tournament will become a platform for young talents who can become the new faces of world volleyball.

History of the Championships
The history of volleyball world championships started in Prague in 1949. The Soviet national team won the tournament. At that time volleyball was in no way inferior to football. The first World Championships featured a team from Moscow, Leningrad and Kiev.
A few interesting facts about the game of volleyball:
- Volleyball was originally known by another name – mintonette;
- USA is the country where volleyball was invented;
- Once in Asia, the rules called for 9-12 players per team instead of 6.

2029 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship
The 2029 Men’s Volleyball World Championship will be held in the Middle East, in Qatar, for the first time in history. This decision was made by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) in September 2025.
