About the Diamond League athletics competition

The Diamond League (Wanda Diamond League) is a series of one-day track and field events that falls into the highest category. Competitions have been held annually from spring to autumn since 2010. Athletes from several continents such as Europe, Asia, North America and Africa take part. The league is organized by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF). Diamond League’s official partners are: Adidas, Canon, Seiko, Sinopec, Toyota, TBK and VTB.

The winner of the Diamond League has to reach the final and take part in the final competition.

2025 Diamond League

The 2025 season promises to be a real treat for all fans of athletics. The Diamond League, a prestigious series of international competitions under the auspices of World Athletics, will bring together the best athletes on the planet at stadiums in Europe, Asia, Africa and America. We tell you when and where the 2025 Diamond League will be held, who will participate and who is worth paying special attention to.

When and where will the 2025 Diamond League be held?

The season starts on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in Shanghai, China, and will end on Thursday, August 28, 2025, in Zurich, Switzerland, where the grand final will be held.

Who will take part?

Many titled athletes have already confirmed their participation in the 2025 season:

Armand Duplantis (Sweden) — world record holder in pole vault
Faith Kipyegon (Kenya) — two-time Olympic champion
Noah Lyles (USA) — favorite in the 100m and 200m
Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine) — leader in the women’s high jump
Karsten Warholm (Norway) — dominator in the 400m hurdles

In 2025, special attention will also be focused on young stars, including Letsile Tebogo (Botswana) and Arrion Knighton (USA).

Favorites and expectations

Each discipline promises a fight at the limit of possibilities. In the sprints, we will see a confrontation between Lyles, Tebogo and Knighton. In the women’s middle distances, the duel between Kipyegon and Tsegay adds intrigue.

History of the Diamond League

The first season of the league took place in 2010. It replaced the IAAF Golden League. The main difference between the Diamond League and the Golden League was that the Golden League was founded to promote the European Athletics competitions. Meanwhile, the aim of the Diamond League was to “take the scale of the competition beyond Europe”.

In December 2019, the name was changed to the Wanda Diamond League, the full sponsorship name.
