About the Canadian Grand Prix
The Canadian Grand Prix has been a part of the F1 World Championship since 1961. Since 1978, it has been held at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (before 1982, it was known as the Circuit Notre Dame Island). As many drivers have pointed out, this circuit is unpredictable. Sharp bends, twisty stages demand dexterity and skill from the drivers, and good braking systems and streamlined performance from the cars. Moreover, it’s not always the winner who takes the lead immediately. This year will be the 42nd race at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
2025 Canadian Grand Prix
The 2025 Canadian Formula One Grand Prix auto race will be held on 13-15 June.
History of F1 racing in Canada
The history of the Canadian Grand Prix began in the mid-1960s. For the first four years, the stages were held in the cities of Mont Tremblant and in the province of Ontario. As the Mont Tremblant circuit turned out to be too dangerous, the Canadian Grand Prix settled at Mosport International Raceway.
It remained so until a new circuit was built in Quebec City in 1978. The first victory on this stage came from renowned auto racer Gilles Villeneuve. After his death in 1982, the team decided to rename the circuit after him. The Canadian Grand Prix has been held at this circuit ever since.
In 2020 and 2021, this stage was cancelled due to a pandemic coronavirus infection.
In 2022, the Canadian Grand Prix was resumed and Max Verstappen emerged victorious. This was his first win at the Canadian Grand Prix.
