The 2025 Formula 1 British Grand Prix will take place from 4 to 6 July.
History of motor racing in the UK
For the first time, the British Grand Prix was held in 1926 at the Brooklands motor circuit. Victory went to the French team.
Since then, the official British Grand Prix has been held at three circuits:
- Silverstone;
- Brands Hatch;
- Aintree.
The first British motor-racing victory in a British car took place in 1957 on the Aintree circuit. Stirling Moss emerged victorious. British newspapers dubbed the day as National Pride Day.
Over time, the cars, the drivers and the rules changed, but the British Grand Prix was always the most important race of Formula One.
Until 2002, the British Grand Prix was reckoned the fastest ever. Namely here in 1985, Keke Rosberg set a lap record with an average speed of 258.983 km/h. His record was broken 17 years later when Juan Pablo Montoya qualified for Monza with a top speed of 259.828 km/h.
Lewis Hamilton is the driver who has won the British Grand Prix 9 times (2008, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2024)
