About the Japanese Grand Prix

The Japanese Grand Prix is a round of the Formula One World Championship. It has been held annually since 1976 with the exception of a break from 1978 to 1986 and 2020, 2021 due to the pandemic.

The 2022 Japanese Grand Prix Formula One will take place on 9 October.

History of motor racing in Japan

The first Japanese Grand Prix was held in 1963 at Suzuka Circuit. This race marked the beginning of motorsport in Japan. From 1963 to 1976, the race was not part of the F1 World Championship.

The first official Japanese Grand Prix were held at Fuji Speedway in 1976 and 1977.

From 1987 to the present day, the Japanese Grand Prix has been held at Suzuka Circuit. During this time, it has only been held twice, once again at Fuji Speedway in 2007 and the second time in 2008.

In the history of the Japanese Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher was the winner 6 times (1995, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004); Lewis Hamilton won 5 times (2007, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018); Sebastian Vettel won 4 times (2009, 2010, 2012, 2013).
