UEFA Women’s Euro 2025
The 14th edition of the Women’s European Football Championship will be held in eight cities in Switzerland from 2 to 27 July. In addition to the host team, 15 other teams will take part in the tournament.
Qualifying for Women’s Euro 2025 will take place from 5 April to 3 December 2024.
History of the European Women’s Football Championship
Women’s football has long been prohibited and restricted by football associations in many European countries. The independent Italian Football Federation organized the Women’s EURO in 1969. Italy then defeated Denmark in the final with a score of 3:1. Ten years later, Italy again hosted the 1979 European Women’s Football Championship. This time, the Danish team emerged victorious.
In 1971, UEFA set up a committee for women’s football. Nonetheless, the committee failed to organize a single international tournament during the seven years it was in operation.
In 1980, UEFA decided to organize its own competition for the women’s national teams. The tournament did not begin until 1982. Sweden’s team won the 1984 final.
Until 1997, only 4 teams participated in the tournament. Since 1997, 8 teams have played.
From 2017 onwards, 16 teams have been competing for the championship in the finals.
