About the Uber Badminton Cup
The Uber Cup is the World Women’s Team Championships in badminton held every two years since 1957. 16 national teams take part in the competition and only 12 of them qualify for the final round.
A similar event for men, the Thomas Cup, has been held since 1948. Starting in 1984, these two championships began to be organized at the same time.

History of Uber Badminton Cup
Men are pioneers in many sporting events. The Uber Cup is no exception. The history of the Thomas Cup dates back to the early 50-ies of the last century, and it was not until 1948 that the first men’s badminton event was held.
Two years after the success of the Thomas Cup, British badminton player Betty Uber proposed to create and run a badminton championship for women.
The competition itself was not held until 1956-1957. In the first championship, the U.S. team defeated Denmark.
The Uber Cup, the main prize, was presented in 1956 during the first championship. This cup itself was made by renowned jewelers in London.
In the history of the Uber Cup, the Chinese national team is the leader in victories – on its account of 15 wins.
