About the French Open
The French Open (known as Roland Garros) is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments, held in Paris, France, on the courts of the famous Roland Garros tennis complex. The tennis competition takes place over two weeks at the turn of spring and summer. Male and female players compete in nine categories: five for adults and four for older juniors.
Matches from Roland Garros are broadcast live, and a large screen in the center of Paris allows tennis fans to watch the action in real time.
Roland Garros 2026
Roland Garros 2026 will be held from May 18 to June 7, 2026, in Paris on the famous red clay courts of Stade Roland Garros. The official start of the qualifiers is scheduled for May 18, the main tournament begins on May 24, and the men’s and women’s Grand Slam finals will take place on June 7 and June 6, respectively. This will be the 125th edition of one of the prestigious Grand Slam tournaments.
Tournament Favorites
The French Open 2026 promises intense competition and unexpected results. In the men’s singles, favorites include Carlos Alcaraz, who feels confident on clay courts, and Jannik Sinner, who consistently demonstrates a high level of play and is ready to challenge the Spaniard.
In the women’s singles, the main contender for the title remains Iga Świątek — multiple Roland Garros champion and one of the best clay-court players in recent years. She will face competition from Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, while rising star Mirra Andreeva stands out as a young talent with strong potential for victory under the right conditions.
History of the French Open
The history of the French Open began in 1891 when the tournament was held exclusively for local players. In 1925, it became international, and in 1928 it moved to the stadium now known as Roland Garros, named after the French aviator.
This Grand Slam tournament is famous for its clay courts, which slow down the ball, extend rallies, and demand incredible endurance and tactical skill from male and female tennis players.
