About the French Open

The French Open Tennis Championship (known as Roland Garros) is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments, held in Paris, France, at the Roland Garros tennis complex. The tournament takes place over two weeks, transitioning from spring to summer. Players compete in nine categories: five for adults and four for junior players.

Live broadcasts from Roland Garros are shown on a giant screen in central Paris, allowing tennis fans to follow the matches in real-time.

Roland Garros 2026

Roland-Garros 2026 will take place from May 18 to June 7, 2026, in Paris on the iconic red clay courts of Stade Roland Garros. The official start of the qualifying rounds is scheduled for May 18, with the main draw beginning on May 24. The women’s final will be held on June 6, and the men’s final on June 7. This will be the 125th edition of one of the four prestigious Grand Slam tournaments.

Tournament Favorites

The 2026 French Open promises to be packed with fierce competition and surprising results. In the men’s singles, the main favorites are Carlos Alcaraz — who feels confident on clay and has already proven himself as a leader — and Jannik Sinner, who consistently shows a high level of play and is ready to challenge the Spaniard.

In the women’s draw, the top contender for the title remains Iga Świątek — a multiple Roland-Garros champion and one of the best clay-court players of recent years. She will face strong competition from Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff, while rising talent Mirra Andreeva stands out as a young player with great potential to clinch a win if the draw goes her way.

History of the French Open

The history of the French Open began in 1891 when it was held exclusively for local tennis players. In 1925, it became an international event, and in 1928, it moved to the stadium now known as Roland Garros, named after a French aviator.

This tournament is renowned for its clay courts, which slow down the ball, extending rallies and demanding exceptional endurance and tactical skill from players.
