About the European Baseball Championship
The European Baseball Championship (Eurobaseball) is the main tournament among the national baseball teams of Europe. It is held every two years under the direction of the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB).
Eurobaseball 2023
The 2023 European Baseball Championship will be held in six cities of the Czech Republic from 24 September to 1 October. 16 national teams will take part in the championship, divided into 4 subgroups:
- Austria, Czech Republic, Greece, Spain – Group A;
- Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Sweden – Group B;
- Croatia, France, Netherlands, Ukraine – Group C;
- Belgium, Germany, Israel, Switzerland – Group D.
History of the European Baseball Championship
The greatest popularity of this sport is in the countries of Asia, Latin America and the United States. Interestingly, after 1900, the game of baseball spread maximally. This period is usually called the “golden era” of baseball. The first European basebаll championship was held in 1954. Throughout the history of the tournament, 34 championships were held.
The USSR team took part in Eurobaseball for the first time only in 1990. And in 2001, the Russian national team managed to win the silver medal.
Previously, Eurobaseball was held every two years in even-numbered years, from 2019 – in odd-numbered years. Italian and Dutch teams are leading in the number of victories in this tournament.
