The IBA Men’s World Boxing Championships stand as one of the most revered and eagerly awaited events in the boxing universe. It convenes the planet’s finest combatants to contend for the World Championship title across diverse weight categories. Besides, this event attracts the attention of not only boxing fans, but also sports analysts, journalists and bettors from around the world.
Held biennially under the authority of the International Boxing Association (IBA, formerly AIBA). The championships follow the regulations of amateur boxing as adopted in the Olympics.
The women’s version of the championship is also separate. However, the structure is similar.

2025 IBA World Boxing Championships
According to preliminary data, the 2025 World Boxing Championships will be held in Kazakhstan from May 25 to June 25. Undoubtedly, this is an important event for Central Asia and the entire boxing community. Kazakhstan has a strong boxing tradition and a developed sports infrastructure. It is expected that the tournament will be held in one of the major cities of the country. It will probably be Astana or Almaty.
Participants and favorites
The championship will bring together representatives of more than 100 countries. Among the main favorites are
- Kazakhstan, the tournament’s host, renowned for its powerful national contingent.
- Uzbekistan, the 2023 champion with a strong and technical team.
- Cuba, a country with a legendary boxing school.
- Russia and China, with traditionally high results and talented fighters.
- USA, India, countries actively developing amateur boxing.
Additionally, special attention will be paid to young athletes, for whom the tournament can become a pass to the Olympics.
Championship history
The first World Championship was held in 1974 in Havana, Cuba. Since then, the tournament has been held in numerous countries, including Russia, Germany, Serbia, the United States and Uzbekistan. It has been a springboard in the careers of stars such as Felix Savon, Vasily Lomachenko, Artem Dalakian and others.
Over the years, the championship has improved. The rules have changed, weight classes have been added, and more attention has been paid to the training of the athletes.

2027 IBA World Boxing Championships
The next World Boxing Championships are expected in 2027. There is no official confirmation of the venue for 2027. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that several countries have already expressed interest in hosting the event, including China and Turkey.
