The Belgian Grand Prix is a round of the Formula One World Championship. It is held annually at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium. Many drivers and spectators call Spa the most interesting circuit in the world.

2026 Belgian Grand Prix

The Belgian Grand Prix 2026 will take place from July 17 to 19 at Spa‑Francorchamps. This iconic circuit is located in the Belgian Ardennes and is known for its fast layout. The event will be the 12th race of the 2026 Formula 1 season. It will feature a sprint format, adding extra excitement to the weekend. Spa’s new agreement includes races in 2026, 2027, 2029, and 2031. Teams and drivers expect challenging conditions and unpredictable weather. Fans can look forward to thrilling action at one of F1’s most historic tracks.

Participants and favorites

All the key teams of the 2026 season will start.:

• Red Bull Racing remains the top team in recent seasons. Max Verstappen is their main title contender.
• McLaren shows strong pace and consistent performance this year. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri stay in the title fight.
• Ferrari – with the experienced Charles Leclair and Lewis Hamilton. A fight for the podium is expected.
• Mercedes are hoping to return to the lead after technical updates to the car.
• Aston Martin and Alpine are teams that can surprise with a successful strategy.

History of motor racing in Belgium

The first Belgian Grand Prix took place in 1925 at Spa-Francorchamps, around the Belgian cities of Spa, Francorchamps, Malmedy and Stavelot. Antonio Ascari was an Italian racing driver and winner of the first Belgian Grand Prix.

Since 1950 the Belgian Grand Prix has been part of the first Formula One World Championship.

The Spa-Francorchamps circuit was considered the fastest and longest. Over a long period of time, it has seen severe accidents, even with fatalities. Consequently, the Spa circuit was deemed unsafe in 1972 and the Grand Prix was first moved to Circuit Nivelles-Baulers and then to Circuit Zolder.

The Spa circuit was soon modernized and since 1985 all Belgian Grand Prix events have been held there.

Interesting facts about the Belgian Grand Prix:

• Michael Schumacher has the most wins in the Belgian Grand Prix. He won the title in 1992, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2001 and 2002;
• The Spa-Francorchamps circuit is considered the longest in the Formula One championship Schedule (the circuit is 7 km long) which is almost half the length of the previous one;
• In 2003 the Belgian Grand Prix was cancelled due to the country’s ban on tobacco advertising.
• Only 20 Belgians have competed in F1 races. Jérôme d’Ambrosio is the last Belgian to compete in the championship. No local driver has ever won in Belgium.
