About the Asian Football Cup
The Asian Cup is a major football competition among the national teams of Asian countries, run by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). It has been held every 4 years since 1956 and takes place one year after the World Cup.
2023 AFC Asian Cup
The final series of the AFC Asian Cup will be held from 12 January to 10 February 2024 in Doha, Qatar. The following teams will participate in the competition: Lebanon, Jordan, Oman, Australia, Iraq, Japan, UAE, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Uzbekistan, Syria, Bahrain, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan, Palestine, Tajikistan, Vietnam.
Among the main contenders to win the upcoming Asian Cup is the Qatar national team, which is the reigning Asian champion and will play at its home stadium. Also, the national teams of Japan, South Korea, Australia and Iran can be counted among the contenders for victory.
Cup history
The Asian Football Cup was first held in 1956 in Hong Kong. South Korea’s national team became the first winner of the event and met in the final match with Israel’s national team. A total of 17 draws of the AFC Asian Cup have been held. The national team of Japan has the largest number of victories on its account of 4. Then come the national teams of Saudi Arabia and Iran. They have 3 wins in their arsenal.
