Betting in face of COVID-19 online conference took place on 16 April 2020. Experts discussed how to keep businesses afloat during the crisis and shared the most relevant information about prospects of the betting, esports, and gambling spheres.
Nikolay Oganezov, the representative of Betcity bookmaker and the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Sports Betting Activities within the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.
About forecasts. Bookmakers are now recording revenue losses of 50-70%. We expect that matches will resume in June 2020, and a slow growth will follow after.
About advertising. The dilemma is about whether or not to cut down on marketing activities. Most bookmakers opt for budget-cutting strategies, and it refers to online advertising as well. Other bookmakers might, however, take action and make the most out of their advertising agreements.
About casino. I think the best way to fight illegal business is to create an optimal environment which will encourage people to gamble legally. Therefore, I don’t object to the government taking control and making online poker and casino fully legal.
About esports. After traditional sporting events resume, esports will face a slight decline. The share of esports in the total amount of bets has increased by 30-40%. Esports is rapidly gaining ground and won’t lose it in the future. We can assume that some people are really getting into esports and later on will stay with this niche.
