The Mediascope service has calculated audience growth over 3 years and named the top 5 social networks in Russia.
VKontakte’s audience has grown significantly: if in October 2021 the network was used by 76 million people*, in October 2023 – 89.2 million. This figure is a record for Russia. Telegram is catching up with the leaders: from 50.8 million to 82.3 million people in October 2023. The service is constantly developing and providing users with new opportunities!
The third most popular short video service is TikTok: 67.6 million users. It is worth considering that in March 2022, the social network restricted the download of content for Russian users.
Next on the list is the Odnoklassniki social network with a stable audience: if in 2021, 46.3 million people visited the site, then in autumn 2023 – 50.1 million.
Meta Corporation services (recognized as extremist in March 2022) round out the ranking of Russian social networks. The blocking of Instagram and Facebook logically had a negative impact on the number of audience. If in 2021, Instagram was in 2nd place in popularity with 62.3 million users, but in October 2023, only 25.1 million remained. The same trend is true for Facebook: from 41.3 to 18.1 million users.
*All data takes into account users over 12 years of age who visited the site or app at least once a month.
By the way, according to to experts, the most blocked social media platform worldwide in 2023 was X (Twitter). Instagram** ranked second, followed by TikTok in third place.
